Spotlight on James

Logo of LA Picture of

James is 7 years old.

We are seeking to place this child within Greater London.

Introduction:

James is aged 6 and his elder sister Sally with their present carer since June 1998. Their natural mum and dad love them very much but, unfortunately, were not able to care for them properly. Sally and James are rewarding children to look after, they would be a positive addition to a family, who in turn could give them the care and security they need.

Family History

There were long standing concerns by social workers about the children's welfare and safety, which was why they were eventually moved to live with foster carers. Despite high levels of support to the family the children had suffered severe neglect, the standard of care was very poor.

All the children were made the subjects of Care Orders. Clare has since reached her 18th birthday and has decided to return home.

The plan for James and his older sister Sally is that they are placed together in an adoptive family.

Both children have made good progress in foster care. The children are close and usually get on well together.

James can be very loving and caring, often he will help Sally when she is trying to make herself understood, he does this is in a kind and sensitive way. His carer describes him as a 'normal' little boy. He enjoys his food and eats extremely well.

He and the other children will sit together happily of an evening when they do their "homework".

James was quite aggressive and erratic when first fostered. He has settled very well, he will listen when asked and is more able to express himself verbally.

School

James is in his second year at the local mainstream school. He seems to be a bright little boy; he is enthusiastic about school and applies himself well. The school.

What James likes

The children attend and enjoy Sunday school and outings with their carer, with whom they have developed a very good relationship.

James enjoys board games, drawing and painting. He gets on well with Simon, a little boy 2 years older than he, who is also with the carer.

Both children enjoy television and their carer encourages them to watch educational programmes, quizzes etc. Television is monitored to ensure it is suitable for their age.

The children enjoy playing outdoors, in the garden or local park. They play a variety of games, including football, tennis, cricket and basketball.

What we are seeking

We would hope to find an Adoptive family outside of the Redbridge area, we feel the children will be better able to settle once placed at a distance from their birth family.

Racial Heritage

Physically James and his sister look like children of white parentage. However, their paternal grandfather was of Black Caribbean heritage, their other grandparents being of White / English origin.

We would hope to find a family that reflects their cultural heritage, however, we are willing to consider a white family who are able to meet the children's cultural needs.

They are presently with a black, Caribbean carer and this has worked well for them.

James is in good health.
