In this section you can find out about recent news items concerning adoption
13th October - BAAF intends to find families for children over the internet from 2007.
BAAF announced that it had been provided with £360,000 of Lottery funding to create a web site that
features children that need new adoptive families. See BAAF
press release or read our web page on Finding Families on the
Internet produced during earlier BAAF announcements.
National Adoption Register gets a reprieve
We were at the launch, and remain today, very doubtful about the value of the National Adoption Register. See
our 2002 comment for more information. The government has announced that the register is to
be run by BAAF for three years when Norwood's three year contract comes to an end.
BAAF had been the major driving force behind the creation of the register and many were surprised when they were not awarded
the preferred bidder status the first time round. Nevertheless the effectiveness of the National Adoption Register has been dismal, we will have to wait to see
if the Governments determination to keep it running under BAAF's stewardship produces the results that would justify the costs over the six year
period. There are many who are doubtful that it will.
New Adoption Leave Entitlement
From April 5th, 2003 new adoption leave and pay entitlements have been introduced. Please visit the
Government web site for more information.
UKkids web site
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new web site
www.UKkids.info. Now people throughout the UK can have online access to information
about children that adoption agencies wish to place in their area.
Visit Now
This development is as a direct result of the considerable success of the LondonKIDS web site which is now in its third year of operation.
Other web sites will be online soon. Please watch this page for further news about them when they come online.
